ACNE

A birthmark is a mark that appears on the skin at birth or shortly thereafter. Birthmarks may be found anywhere on the skin and vary in size, shape, and color. They may be large or small, flat or raised. They may have regular or irregular borders and differ in color.

BIRTHMARKS

Congenital vascular malformation is a term that describes a cluster of blood vessels that forms abnormally due to development problems in the early stages of fetal development.

ECZEMA

Eczema is a condition that causes red, dry, intensely itchy patches of skin that may crack, crust and weep fluid. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema. Often, the itch develops before the rash, which is why eczema is sometimes described as “the itch that rashes.”

HEMANGIOMAS

A hemangioma is a birthmark that may appear at birth (congenital hemangioma) or begin growing shortly thereafter. This benign (noncancerous) growth forms due to an abnormal collection of blood vessels, although it is not quite clear why this happens.

HAIR, SKIN, AND NAIL DISORDERS

Some conditions aren’t curable, but they can be managed through lifestyle changes to manage exposure to underlying causes and medications to manage symptoms. Your dermatologist will partner with you to identify the causes and treatments for such conditions.

WARTS

Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin. Viruses that cause warts are called human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts are usually skin-colored and feel rough to the touch, but they can be dark, flat and smooth.

PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic (lifelong) condition in which there is an abnormal and rapid cycling of the skin’s cells, resulting in a buildup of immature cells on the surface of the skin in the form of patches, plaques or pustules. It is not something you can “catch” or that others can catch from you.

MOLES

Most people have between 10 and 40 moles, or nevi, on their bodies. Those with darker skin tone tend to also have darker mole color, while light-skinned adults may have more moles on their bodies.

ROSACEA

Rosacea is a common but often misunderstood condition that is estimated to affect more than 45 million people worldwide. It affects fair-skinned people of mostly north-western European descent and has been nicknamed the ‘curse of the Celts’ by some in Ireland.

PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY
